چکیده

Conventional edge linking methods perform poorly when multiple responses to the same edge, bifurcations and nearby edges are present. We propose a scheme for curve inference where divergent bifur-cations are initially suppressed so that the smooth parts of the curves can be computed more reliably. Recovery of curve singularities and gaps is deferred to a later stage, when more contextual information is available.

A hierarchical approach to high resolution edge contour reconstruction

EEcient edge detection algorithms such as Canny's fail near curve singularities. Moreover, the standard linking algorithms used on top of these detectors often fail because of instabilities in the tracking process (due to multiple responses to the same edge and interference of nearby edges). We propose a hierarchical approach to edge detection based on a graph stabilization method that allows b...

A Curve Evolution Approach to Smoothing and Segmentation Using the Mumford-Shah Functional

In this work, we approach the classic Mumford-Shah problem from a curve evolution perspective. In particular, we let a given family of curves define the boundaries between regions in an image within which the data are modeled by piecewise smooth functions plus noise as in the standard Mumford-Shah functional. The gradient descent equation of this functional is then used to evolve the curve. Eac...

Boundary temperature reconstruction in an inverse heat conduction problem using boundary integral equation method

‎In this paper‎, ‎we consider an inverse boundary value problem for two-dimensional heat equation in an annular domain‎. ‎This problem consists of determining the temperature on the interior boundary curve from the Cauchy data (boundary temperature and heat flux) on the exterior boundary curve‎. ‎To this end‎, ‎the boundary integral equation method is used‎. ‎Since the resulting system of linea...

Hierarchical multiresolution reconstruction of shell surfaces

We present an adaptive, hierarchical Hh-multiresolution reconstruction algorithm to model shell surface objects from a matched pair of triangulated surfaces. Shell surfaces are an interval of contours of trivariate functions with prismatic support. In the H-direction, a hierarchical representation of the scaffold is constructed. For any adaptively extracted scaffold from the hierarchy, a sequen...

Hierarchical Reconstruction for Discontinuous Galerkin Methods on Unstructured Grids with a WENO Type Linear Reconstruction

The hierarchical reconstruction [11] is applied to discontinuous Galerkin method on the two-dimensional unstructured grids. We explore a variety of limiter functions used in the construction of piecewise linear polynomials. We show that due to the abrupt shift of stencils, the use of center biased limiter functions is essential in order to recover the desired order of accuracy. Furthermore, we ...
